https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=848834 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=848834#c2 Moritz Duge <colAflash@gmx.net> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |colAflash@gmx.net --- Comment #2 from Moritz Duge <colAflash@gmx.net> 2013-11-22 01:05:47 UTC --- Having the same problem using the talk/hangout plugin on 2 computers running openSUSE x86_64. On both computers, the plugin worked well with openSUSE 12.3. But since updating to openSUSE 13.1 the plugin won't start up anymore. Both computers have a webcam. But on one computer the webcam is external. When the external webcam was detached, Hangout also worked with openSUSE 13.1. But I was alone in the hangout session, so there was any video rendered on the screen (neither from my webcam or a chat partners one). So it could ether be the webcam itself or the video rendering, which crashed the plugin. Tested with Chromium and Firefox. Found a workaround: Get a 32 bit Firefox. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ and use the 32 bit talk plugin instead of the 64 bit version. http://www.google.com/tools/dlpage/hangoutplugin/download.html?hl=de Tip: Run Firefox with /firefox/32bit/dir/firefox -ProfileManager -no-remote By this, you get a second Firefox instance and you don't have to close your normal 64 bit Firefox (you'll have to create a second profile in the profilemanager that comes up). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I cannot find any udev related crash but then again hangouts is not working for me on 13.1. I've got this google-talkplugin-4.9.1.0-1.x86_64 wolfi@Hygiea:/opt/google/talkplugin> ldd GoogleTalkPlugin | grep udev libudev.so.1 => /usr/lib64/libudev.so.1 (0x00007f60e6284000) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib64/libudev.so.0 firefox I didn't knew that workaround until you mentioned. But it's working for me, using the 64bit talk-plugin and a the standard openSUSE 13.1 64bit Firefox! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But it actually doesn't work on openSUSE 13.1 because the file-paths in it do not fit. https://gist.github.com/rmdashrf/7019061 For openSUSE 13.1, do it like this (works for me): ================================ sudo mv /opt/google/talkplugin/GoogleTalkPlugin /opt/google/talkplugin/GoogleTalkPlugin.org Create a file /opt/google/talkplugin/GoogleTalkPlugin with this content: ==== #!/bin/bash LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib64/libudev.so.0:$LD_PRELOAD \ /opt/google/talkplugin/GoogleTalkPlugin.org \ $@ ==== sudo chmod +x /opt/google/talkplugin/GoogleTalkPlugin -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
