[Bug 728745] New: KDE Live CD (openSuse 12.1 RC2) hangs before window manager starts
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=728745 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=728745#c0 Summary: KDE Live CD (openSuse 12.1 RC2) hangs before window manager starts Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Factory Platform: 64bit OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: o.knobloch@bunker-f42.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 Hi Everybody ! I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T420s (NV7L7GE) with Corei5, 8GB Ram, SSD. UMTS and the run of the Live CD does not reach the window manager. I have not set special kernel parameter for the startup, apart from "No ACPI". Some of the not so nice log messages on the screen are: EXT4-fs (loop0): Unrecognized mount option "1" or missing value systemd[1]: mount: /not mounted or bad option systemd[1]: remount-rootfs.service: main process exited... WARNING: power/level is deprecated; use power/control instead udevd[1344]: error opening ATTR{...pci000...} fsck: fsck.unknown: not found fsck: error 2 while executing fsck.unknown for /dev/sda1 iwlagn: no suitable firmware found mount[1457] mount: unknown filesystem type 'unknown' udevd[1345] /sbin/modeprobe ...usb ... terminated by signal 1 udevd[1414] ...bluetooth.sh ...terminated by signal 15 udevd[1412] firmware ... terminated by signal 15 iwlagn: no suitable firmware found and some other messages. Finally I get "Press enter for login" when I do this, I get to the simple console view. Typing "startx" brings after some seconds a single window with "Executable: kdeinit4 PID 2403: Signal Segmentation fault. Do you have an idea what I could do better ? Should the kde manager start automatically? Best regards Olaf Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Putting the iso image on CD 2. starting the laptop 3. It boots up to "Press enter for login" 4. typing startx causes the KDE Crash Handler to appear. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

For some unknown reason, everything crashes for you ;( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

After that, the boot process seems to continue, but the the error messages are comparable to the previous. I have lines like: system-fsck[1622]: fsck failed with error code 8 fsck: fsck.unknown: not found Welcome to emergency mode. Use "system...." or ^D to activate default mode. and a lot of udevd[1570]: worker[...] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it With ^D I get back to the line "Press enter for login:" but no window manager. Is there anything I can test futher? Do you need more information? I get an opensuse background with a warning message "Logging in linux... Warning: Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session: Failed to connect to socket ......" I click "Ok" and the KDE splash screen appears. But after all I get back to the single window with "Executable: kdeinit4 PID 2403: Signal Segmentation fault. But, after pressing CTRL-ALT-Backspace I get to the graphic login screen. When I put root and I choose, lets say the IceWM, the IceWM starts ! But no KDE. Hope these information help. You have a NTFS partition in your system which breaks systemd. This is fixed in kiwi for 12.1, I sure hope -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Do you think, the final 12.1 version can cope with this? Should the final LiveCD be good for a final test on my laptop? thx Olaf -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
