[Bug 237670] New: hal fails to mount vfat because script trashes mount option
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=237670 Summary: hal fails to mount vfat because script trashes mount option Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jimc@math.ucla.edu QAContact: qa@suse.de haldaemon, dbus and gnome-volume-manager are running. You insert a USB flash memory stick, USB camera, etc. with a VFAT filesystem on it. Haldaemon is signalled to mount it. The script /usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-storage-mount is invoked, feeding to mount an option of iocharset=iso8859_1, among others. The storage is not mounted and in syslog you discover "kernel: FAT: IO charset iso8859_1 not found". It wants iocharset=iso8859-1, not underbar 1. It turns out that as a paranoia measure the script changes all punctuation including hyphens to underbars. Not good -- it should allow hyphens (and possibly others like at-sign and comma). In http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=hal.git;a=tree I was not able to find this script, and they recommend reporting bugs through the distro vendor. I've attached a diff that lets hyphens through, allowing my flash memory to be mounted. Versions (all from SuSE 10.1 with recent patches): hal-0.5.6-33.11 dbus-1-0.60-30 gnome-volume-manager-1.5.15-26 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
