I do not see the problem on computers directly connected to the Internet. I suspect the connection is broken before the firewall finishes the virus scanning. I guess a longer timeout setting might fix it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=214956 ------- Comment #3 from alpha096@tpg.com.au 2006-10-25 20:34 MST ------- RE comment #2...the action of freshclam requires access to port 3310. I have already opened that port and had success performing freshclam on another PC where clamAV is already installed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=214956 ------- Comment #4 from alpha096@tpg.com.au 2006-10-25 22:39 MST ------- A second attempt to install this package was successful. It is painfully apparent that most all online update problems are associated defendant on how busy the selected mirror is. The other dependent problem is how much load there is on the bandwidth of the receiving LAN. This MUST be resolved because the more people who move to Linux the more busy the mirrors are all going to be. Most of the online update errors are all closed with worksforme and indeed it worksforme as well if I choose a time when my mirror is not too busy and LAN traffic is at a minimum. These constraints are applied by the variables in ZMD. ZMD has been the biggest problem associated with YOU with the introduction of version 10.1. Its value in further releases needs to be re-evaluated as the most all the enormous problems reported with YOU are a result of the parameter set in ZMD The option of retry/resend etc are NOT application issues. These issues are dependent on the redundancy and acknowledgments built within the comms. I feel we should not interfere with the redundancy/resent/retry issues embedded and form a large part of the protocol. If we fail to address Online updates soon we will perhaps get to the point where we have the files to fix problems, however it will be a hit and miss situation on who can and who cannot apply them dependent on available bandwidth. I feel very sorry for those user using dialup with restricted bandwidth available. See screen shot Please forgive my passionate dialogged here. Please discuss further with QA team. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=214956 ------- Comment #6 from alpha096@tpg.com.au 2006-10-30 20:09 MST ------- Please see cross refernce with bug 215619 which has the following commen and relivance Quote Please forgive me jumping in here, however bug indicated in #5 is in regard to installing clamAV originally in YAST as a root user. I don't see the issue, however I am first to admit I don't understand the rest of the issues in #5 above. More pointedly bug https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=214956 calls for the complete re-assessment of the current online update and ZMD association. With version 10.1 when we moved to ZEN updater replaced SuSe watcher we introduced a massive number of issues, this now being one. There have been no less that 4 different version published online update. I have strong issue that a service runs freenly under root credentials, in-order to function, is available and accessible without the user needing to log in as root. ZEN updater neeeds serious re-evaluation as to its effectiveness/ its current issues and this new issue. I do not understand why we move from susewatcher to ZEN updater. certainly I understand it was portaled from the Novell ZEN desktop updater the was used in a Novell NetWare environment where the MS-Windows Client was already running Administrator permissions for Zen Desktop updater to function. To move an application such as ZEN updater to a Linux environment and subsequently for the desktop user to grant the application root authority just to function and leave the application open and running with permitted escalation of authority is flawed in a Linux environment. ZEN updaters functionality and now security issues needs strong re-evaluation to continue its use in the product Linux where the user can run normally under a least privileged account.
