[Bug 734731] New: /usr/share/doc/packages/fglrx/README.SuSE is out-of-date.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734731 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734731#c0 Summary: /usr/share/doc/packages/fglrx/README.SuSE is out-of-date. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: suse@rollingdie.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:8.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0 I have a Radeon HD 5450 and MythTV was showing choppy video, so I took a chance and installed the fglrx (catalyst) driver. http://en.opensuse.org/Fglrx I am using a 64 bit machine, so I did the following with opensuse 12.1: zypper ar -f http://geeko.ioda.net/mirror/ati/openSUSE_12.1/ fglrx zypper in fglrx64_xpic_SUSE121 Now mythtv doesn't work very well at all. Troubleshooting I find mention of opengl issues: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/ATI_Proprietary_Driver So, I noticed during the install of fglrx that configuration is described in a text file: /usr/share/doc/packages/fglrx/README.SuSE I looked in this file and see it mentions some applications require a different API for opengl: "Some OpenGL applications might already require OpenGL extensions, which are only available in the GLX 1.3 API, whereas the standard OpenGL library only provides the GLX 1.2 API. Therefore ATI provides an OpenGL library, which adds some of the GLX 1.3 extensions. If you want to make use of this library with a program called "foobar", just do the following: IA32: LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/fglrx/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH foobar AMD64: LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib64/fglrx/lib:/usr/lib/fglrx/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH foobar" None of these directories exist. Does the file need to be updated? Is it maintained by OpenSuSE? If it isn't, who do I report this to? If it is, can you update it and tell me what the directories should be? PS Why isn't OpenSUSE 12.1 listed in the Operating System drop down menu in bugzilla? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.zypper ar -f http://geeko.ioda.net/mirror/ati/openSUSE_12.1/ fglrx 2.zypper in fglrx64_xpic_SUSE121 3. Actual Results: /usr/share/doc/packages/fglrx/README.SuSE refers to directories that don't exist. Expected Results: Directories would be up-to-date. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:8.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0

Do you have to install the fglrx package on a fresh installed openSUSE 12.1 or from an upgraded openSUSE 12.1? Which desktop are you using? Do you install MythTV from Packman repository?
None of these directories exist. Does the file need to be updated?
The readme file /usr/share/doc/packages/fglrx/README.SuSE is outdated and needs to be rewritten.
Is it maintained by OpenSuSE?
The packaging script (generating a RPM package) and all of files for openSUSE in AMD Catalyst are maintained by me. ;-)
If it isn't, who do I report this to?
If any openSUSE releated issues with AMD Catalyst, you can submit a bugreport here. Please add me as CC in the bugreport. If necessary I will also consult directly AMD. If any AMD Catalyst/fglrx related issues (graphic errors) you should better submit the bugreport to http://ati.cchtml.com/
If it is, can you update it and tell me what the directories should be?
Please type this in the console as root and post the output here: # ldconfig -p | grep X11R6 # cat /etc/ld.so.conf.d/fglrx.conf Thanks, Sebastian -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Do you have to install the fglrx package on a fresh installed openSUSE 12.1 or from an upgraded openSUSE 12.1? It was a fresh install, 64 bit, not an upgrade of openSuSE 11.x.
Which desktop are you using?
KDE.
Do you install MythTV from Packman repository?
I don't know what this has to do with the bug, but I was compiling from source. MythTV was just my background story, I don't see how it relates.

You didn't tell me who is responsible for the readme file. I already guessed what you report above. Since SuSE is the file extension, I will infer it is a SuSE issue (seems logical).
If it is, can you update it and tell me what the directories should be?
Please type this in the console as root and post the output here:
# ldconfig -p | grep X11R6
# cat /etc/ld.so.conf.d/fglrx.conf
Thanks,
Sebastian
