As there are only 4MB to store the kernel it is stripped down to the bare minimum. What would you need sound for with the boot kernel? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

A PS3 optimized kernel actually seems like a good idea, no? In any case, just for my clarification, when is kernel-ps3 used? Is it the one that is embedded in the otheros.bld ? Also, is there an OpenSUSE PS3 project page or mailing list someplace? I've been doing a lot of work on this lately and would like to help improve the way OpenSUSE runs on the PS3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Ok, perhaps this is my bad then but I installed kernel-ps3 because I found it in a "zypper search ps3" search and assumed it was a kernel designed to be used specifically with the PS3.
I agree this might be a bit misleading. You don't need an extra kernel for PS3 because it's a PowerPC processor like any other.
A PS3 optimized kernel actually seems like a good idea, no?
I don't see anything that couldn't be optimized in the ppc64 kernel as well. So no need to put up an extra kernel. Feel free to suggest anything.
In any case, just for my clarification, when is kernel-ps3 used? Is it the one that is embedded in the otheros.bld ?
correct!
Also, is there an OpenSUSE PS3 project page or mailing list someplace? I've been doing a lot of work on this lately and would like to help improve the way OpenSUSE runs on the PS3.
Yes have a look at: http://en.opensuse.org/PS3 You could subscribe to https://ozlabs.org/mailman/listinfo/cbe-oss-dev as well for general PS3/Cell processor discussion Welcome aboard ;-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
