[Bug 704812] New: LibreOffice no longer prints to Generic Postcript Level 2 printer
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=704812 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=704812#c0 Summary: LibreOffice no longer prints to Generic Postcript Level 2 printer Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: OpenOffice.org AssignedTo: bnc-team-ooo@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: roland@logikalsolutions.com QAContact: cwei@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:5.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/5.0 I have all patches and updates applied. LibreOffice 3.3.3 OOO330m19 (Build:301) tag libreoffice-3.3.3.1 This was working flawlessly until I tried printing today. All other applications, Mozilla, Opera, Evolution, and various text editors can print to this printer just fine. Attempts to print from LibreOffice fires the printer up for warm up, then appears to send empty file. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.print document from LibreOffice to Generic Postcript Level 2 printer 2. 3. Actual Results: Printer fires up for warm-up, then acts like an empty document file was sent. Expected Results: printed output expected Since this is the "Generic Postscript Level 2" driver, which was used to replace all older Postscript printer drivers, like the specific Lexmark Optra S 1855 driver that used to exist, this is a massive bug. The bug cannot be in the driver or the other installed applications would not print. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please print a small LibreOffice document (one page) where the issue happens for you into a PostScript file from LibreOffice and attach this file to the bug as MIME type text/plain. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I did create your file, but not of a one page document. The problem appears to happen after one tries to print a selected range of pages. I tried to print pages 95-96. Once the error happens you can no longer print. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Interesting - which may well then turn out to be a problem with the cups setup. Any chance to get some cups debug log (along the lines of this: http://www.cups.org/documentation.php/doc-other/cups-help.html#telling) attached here (if in doubt, as a private attachment)? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I am not going to read 30 screens that wander aimlessly about debugging cups problems and GUESS at what you want sent to you. If there is a command you want run, provide it AND identify what you want sent back. You seem to believe this is a general cups problem despite the fact I've told you EVERY OTHER APPLICATION PRINTS JUST FINE TO THIS PRINTER, EVEN PAGE RANGES. Once again, identify _EXACTLY_ what it is you are looking for and the command to do it, then it will be done. I have only one application which doesn't print to this printer. That application generates a control file and a PDF. All other applications print fine. Those applications generate a PostScript file. The printer is a PostScript printer. If I attempt to print pages 95-96 of a document with well over 100 pages in it via LibreOffice, I don't get output. Not only that, I have to exit LibreOffice before I can once again get output of any kind. To me, that is a fatal flaw in the print dialog used by LibreOffice, but, if you believe it is a cups issue, fine. Tell me _EXACTLY_ what command you want run and the output to return. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Not helpful. I expect bug reports to be pre-digested to be actionable for me. If I need to invest significant time to redo/setup your specific environment, the bug goes back to the bottom of the stack. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

You have not posted a single helpful message on this bug. I've spent 25+ years in software development and if you expect pre-digested bugs, that tells me the non-existent level of your skills. This bug is impacting a large number of OpenSuSE corporate customers so it will soon find its way to the top of a qualified developer's stack. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
