[Bug 555556] New: Dell M4300 - fans not going to high when temperature increases
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=555556 Summary: Dell M4300 - fans not going to high when temperature increases Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: pablo@blueoakdb.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091103 SUSE/3.5.5-2.1 Firefox/3.5.5 Howdy, After upgrading to `opensuse 11.2', I was compiling `make -j2' pidgin and noticed my cores getting very warm (85C+). On `opensuse 11.1', my fans would kick on to high around 65C (although I don't quite remember exactly) but during a compilation, my cores wouldn't get much above 72C. My fans are on but are low even when the machine is under load. I found the following link in the Ubuntu forums which appears related: [ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/451337/comments/16 ] It appears we have the same kernel version. But I'm not 100% sure. I'm not sure what severity to give this problem. I certainly don't want to shorten the life of my CPU's so I'll mark it `Critical' Please downgrade if you think I'm being too stringent. Cheers, -pablo Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Using `pidgin' as an example, `make clean; make -j2' Actual Results: Run any program which will cause the CPU to get warm. I monitor my CPU's with `gkrellm' Expected Results: The cores get very hot. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
