[Bug 780907] New: Losing sound device in Skype when plugging headset and a sound occurs
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=780907 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=780907#c0 Summary: Losing sound device in Skype when plugging headset and a sound occurs Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@suse.com ReportedBy: andrea.turrini@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=506108) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=506108) Output of "pactl list" User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:16.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/16.0 In my oS 12.2 I have installed pulseaudio-1.1-6.4.1 (last available from the update repository) and I am facing a strange problem with skype-4.0.0.8 installed using the suse's rpm provided by skype: Each time I connect the headset via the mini-jack and a sound event occurs (as email notification from thunderbird or simply clementine playing a song), there is no more sound on the headset since skype loses the device that disappears from the list of available devices. I will attach the screenshots of the skype's Sound Devices Options dialog when sound works and after inducing the described problem as well as the output of "pactl list". Note that I never faced this problem in oS 12.1 using the same version of skype (installed using the same rpm file). I'm not sure whether it's a problem of PulseAudio or anything else. Could you try to downgrade pulseaudio to the version of 12.1 and see whether the problem happens? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=780907 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=780907#c4 --- Comment #4 from Andrea Turrini <andrea.turrini@gmail.com> 2012-09-19 08:44:17 UTC --- Other apps I tried (clementine, vlc, thunderbird, smplayer) work smoothly, no problems at all. I tried to downgrade to PA from oS 12.1 but nothing changes, so I reverted to the version from oS 12.2. I have also performed other experiments and the problem does not seem to be related to plugging the jack: even if I do not plug it (or I keep it plugged), the problem occurs. However, if I make a test sound, I hear it. Then, if I induce a sound event, for the following 5 seconds (more or less) the test sound fails and then it works again. In the same time window, available devices are as in the non-working screenshot, then they come back as in the working screenshot. If you note, in both screenshot there is the device "sysdefault (unknown)", so it seems it is always available. However, still no sound in the window. On the other hand, if I make a test call, then every other sound (clementine, thunderbird, vlc, smplayer) is blocked until some second after I end the test call. In particular, if I make the test call and then I ask clementine to play a song, clementine's time bar moves for 1 second and then stops until I end the test call. Note that thunderbird, clementine, smplayer, and vlc are able to interact each other with PA without problems. Finally if I run pavucontrol and no sound event occurs, then skype is not working with devices as in the non working screenshot until I close pavucontrol. If you need some other info, you have to tell me how to obtain them. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=780907 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=780907#c6 --- Comment #6 from Andrea Turrini <andrea.turrini@gmail.com> 2012-09-27 11:20:41 UTC --- I checked again installed packages from old oS 12.1 and now, by installing alsa-plugins-pulse-32bit, libpulse0-32bit, and libpulse-mainloop-glib0-32bit, the problem is disappeared (I am not sure whether the latter is really needed). So, strictly speaking, the bug can be closed. However I think it can be worth to investigate why there was this strange behavior and check whether this is just a symptom of some other problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Let's close now. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
