[Bug 807190] New: os-prober fails to find Windows 8 on other disk, unless I mount EFI partition
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=807190 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=807190#c0 Summary: os-prober fails to find Windows 8 on other disk, unless I mount EFI partition Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 12.3 Beta 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@suse.com ReportedBy: nrickert@ameritech.net QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=527859) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=527859) Output from "df" User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/534.34 (KHTML, like Gecko) rekonq/2.1 Safari/534.34 I installed opensuse 12.3 RC2 on a UEFI box. The install was on a separate hard drive. The generated grub2-efi configuration did not include an entry to boot Windows 8. I later discover that if I first mount the EFI partition from the Win8 hard drive, then os-prober finds Windows. Otherwise not. I mounted as "/mnt/efi" but mounting anywhere would probably have worked. Originally reported as comment 12 to bug 775610. I was asked to open a separate report. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. run "os-prober" as root, when the EFI partition for Window disk is not mounted. 2. 3. Actual Results: no output Expected Results: It should have given information about Windows 8 I am attaching 3 files: df.out - the output of the "df" command parted.out - the output of "parted -l" messages - the lines added to "/var/log/messages" from the time that I ran "os-prober". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

@Jiri, should I submit separate request for 12.3? It should go into installation DVD, not as update, so users get proper menu from the very beginning.
Hi Andrey, I think that we could only request coolo (or any other guy but I didn't know) if we want any changes be in 12.3 release repo. The submission could only target to 12.3 update repo. This is what I heard and could be wrong (so coolo if this is wrong please correct me.) Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Testing with current state of 12.3, the problem is the same with Win7 and without EFI
Well, then please open separate bug report. This one (and patch) is about EFI. It is in 12.3 so marking as resolved. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
