Is this related to this bug and the crash module, or is it something else?
# echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger ... [ 58.500686] Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception [ 58.501643] Kernel Offset: 0x28000000 from 0xffffffff81000000 (relocation range: 0xffffffff80000000-0xffffffffbfffffff) [ 58.503213] Rebooting in 90 seconds.. ... (More in https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/382343/file/serial0.txt.)
As a result vmcore was not created: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/382343#step/crash/63.
No, it's not related to the build failing. By my thinking you couldn't have any crash module from a version of crash where the build was failing other than by doing your own builds (the product build never finished). For what's reported in comment #6 it seems a new bug to me and if I understand correctly then sysrq_handle_crash (the point of failure here and the execution point for the crash syscall being triggered) is actually in the kernel (at least one case is drivers/tty/sysrq.c) not in crash. Doesn't mean it's not my responsibility since it's in the crash sysrq. Comment #6 does remind me that this bsc is fixed in Factory and I should close the bug. I plan to ask by the end of next week for the Factory version (7.1.8 now) to be published for all product versions so it would be worth seeing if the problem still occurs with that version, if your situation is urgent the Factory version in OBS should have a product build you could try but it's not supported. I'll leave the NEEDINFO to remind me to close this bug and ask for the release version to be upgraded. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Taking my point about the (only case I found of the) crashing function during the coredump being in drivers/tty then I wonder if the problem is because you seem to have the serial console setup for the boot and crash kernel then the crash is handled by drivers/tty. Is there any chance the host has only one serial console and you didn't actually intend for it to be used as the console in one of the cases: crash kernel or coredump. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
