[Bug 1192978] New: Randomly, firefox tabs refuse to work
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1192978 Bug ID: 1192978 Summary: Randomly, firefox tabs refuse to work Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.2 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Firefox Assignee: mozilla-bugs@suse.de Reporter: carlos.e.r@opensuse.org QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Situation: since a few months back, sometimes, when I middle click on a link in Firefox or click in Thunderbird to open a new tab with that link, that tab is empty. If I go to that tab and hit enter on that URL it does nothing. If I type another URL on that tab, it does nothing. That tab is dead. I can open another new tab, paste the same URL, or repeat the click on Thunderbird, opening another new tab, and then it works. Or not. When this issue started, it would be one tab that would not work. The number of non working tabs increases, now sometimes it is 4 tabs that do not work. This doesn't affect other instances of Firefox, opened with a different profile. And so far, only my big desktop computer is affected. This Firefox instance may have dozens of windows and hundreds of tabs. Machine has 32 gigs of ram, AMD CPU. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I started FF now from a terminal, so far nothing gets written there. But as a side effect, I can now not open any link from Thunderbird: it first asks what profile to use, and when I select the currently running one, it thinks for a few seconds and says it is not responding. If I open a tab and type a link it is working now, maybe it fails later on. I could also obtain an strace or ltrace or whatever. Yes, I have some addons. I have ublock origin - wait, now when I click on "Tools, addons" there is no response. This is new. I can not get a list of addons today. [...] Ok, found a window that was displaying the addons, on another desktop, that one was blocking, and focus was not jumping to it. I have: * tab counter - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/DaAwesomeP/ * UBlock origin. When the problem happens, I tried disabling this one, no effect. * Window titler - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/window-titler Disabled addons: * Addblock plus https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/13462625/?utm_source=firefox-browser&utm_medium=firefox-browser&utm_content=addons-manager-user-profile-link * show-profile - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/5322799/?utm_source=firefox-browser&utm_medium=firefox-browser&utm_content=addons-manager-user-profile-link * Themes: System theme. * Plugins: OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc. http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1192978 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1192978#c12 --- Comment #12 from Carlos Robinson <carlos.e.r@opensuse.org> --- Restarted FF via Alt-F2 prompt instead (then entering "firefox -P Small --no-remote --safe-mode"), and I still can not open links from Thunderbird. I get: Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To use Firefox, you must first close the existing Firefox process, restart your device, or use a different profile. The fact that disabling all add-ons one by one does not affect the tabs not working behavior, but safe mode does, maybe indicates that it is not an addon, but a theme the culprit. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

When one such tab refuses to work, I move it to a dedicated FF window which I titled "BAD". After a while, this tab crashes, a report is automatically submitted, I click restart all crashed tabs, and they do, AFAIK. The upgrade from Mozilla repo seems to be too intrusive, so I have to wait for the official upgrade. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
