[Bug 514747] New: Older Asus laptop don't work well with module acpi_laptop
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=514747 Summary: Older Asus laptop don't work well with module acpi_laptop Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: peter-mailbox@web.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 Gecko/2009042700 Firefox/3.0.10 Hello, I've have an old Asus laptop L3D (L3000D) which worked quite well in the past with acpi4asus and module asus_acpi. All extra buttons on laptop and laptop-keyboard and both leds (wled for wlan and mled for mail) worked more or less out of the box with extra scripts to make the events do something. With module asus_laptop, first the button 'LCD/Monitor/TV Switch' (Fn+F8) don't work, but from acpi_listen I can see the events. Then, I can't see any of the leds, neither in /proc nor /sys. The only maybe led related things I can see is /sys/devices/platform/asus-laptop/wlan (and ledd), but it's not possible to write on it (no permissions set on wlan or ledd). echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/asus-laptop/wlan gives: Permission denied and after changing the permissions to read/write echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/asus-laptop/wlan gives: Input/output error I use actually openSUSE 11.1 Kernel 2.6.27.23-0.1-pae KDE 3.5.10 "release 21.9" The laptop is recognized by the module asus_laptop like asus-laptop: Asus Laptop Support version 0.42 asus-laptop: L3D model detected Maybe this is similar to bug 448004? Should I try the module asus-laptop from the 11.2 version (so compile the module from the 11.2 sources under 11.1, if it's possible...) or should I upgrade to 11.2? I haven't made any plan for an upgrade and as I know, 11.2 with the 'final' release isn't available until 12th of November. First I have to say that both the LCD/Monitor/TV-Switch and the two leds are not at all important. I use them more 'just for fun'. /sys/class/leds/ exists, but it's empty (no asus::mail or whatever). So, I can't use mail- or wlan-led. When I use acpi_listen and then Fn+F8 (pressing buttons three times), I get hotkey HOTK 00000061 00000000 hotkey HOTK 00000062 00000000 hotkey HOTK 00000063 00000000 and so on... Fn+F8 for my laptop toggles normally between LCD->External Monitor->TV. I've an external monitor connected to the laptop. On boot (grub bootscreen), it's still possible to switch between the monitors. But when I start the system, switching is no more available. The first time pressing Fn+F8 results in a short time blank screen on the external monitor, afterwards Fn+F8 results in nothing. There is no hint in dmesg. I configured the monitors via sax2 to a dualhead cloned multihead. Removing this has no result, toggling don't work. The script which links the events with an action contains for the hotkeys above: case "$EVENT" in hotkey) if... ..elif [ $VAL -ge 97 -a $VAL -le 99 ]; then # Fn-F8 internal/external/both hotkey HOTK 00000061/hotkey HOTK 00000062/hotkey HOTK 00000063 : # do nothing... <<< But this is OK I suppose, kernel should do the toggling? I attached the result from acpidump (acpidump.txt) and acpidump -b (acpidump_b.txt). When I use acpidump, I get a message on console: 'Wrong checksum for DSDT!'. I use a modified DSDT table from acpi.sourceforge.net/dsdt/index.php (ASUS- L3500D-0115a-custom.asl.gz) to get power state C2 working. What do you mean with 'For the wlan bug, I need the dmesg...'? Maybe there is some misunderstandig. I don't have an embedded wlan in my laptop. I use a pcmcia card (Artem Onair - Orinoco Gold) and the card works. The wlan led is completely independent from this card, means for using it it's necessary to switch on and off the wlan led by a script (e.g. like echo 1 > /sys/.../wlan switching on). I use a modified DSDT table from acpi.sourceforge.net/dsdt/index.php (ASUS- L3500D-0115a-custom.asl.gz) to get power state C2 working. Argh, that's bad. There were quite some problems on DSDT overriding via initrd recently. Jeff: Did this work in the end in 11.2 GM?
Do you have a good pointer or best a diff between the modified and the original DSDT for getting C2 to work. Hmm, best send it privately or in a separate bug. This bug should really only be for tracking asus-laptop/asus-acpi regressions, so that Corantin is not confused by possible SUSE/whatever side-effects. Tell me if you need something compiled for testing, I can do that for you. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
