Is this intentional? Yes.
What is the reason? There are several. See Bug #207589, comment #7.
GPL concerns? Not at all.
Are we looking at no 3D KMPs We'll see. There's still some hope.
and no tiny-nvidia-installer for 10.2? Yes. Use the installer instead. See http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/nvidia-installer-HOWTO.html

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=212375 ------- Comment #2 from martin.schlander@gmail.com 2006-10-16 04:09 MST ------- Guess I'll have to take your word for it.. apparently I'm not allowed to see #207509. Good news about the KMPs though, I was beginning to think all hope was lost. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

There is no reason this should be marked as resolved no valid point for removing it were mentioned at all? i just took the rpm from 10.1 and used it work like a charm... sure faster than going for the installer and doing it by hand. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Here the comment #7 for your convenience: 1) It's an undocumented way to install the NVIDIA driver. The driver update process should be used instead - if possible. Otherwise use the official installer. See http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/nvidia-installer-HOWTO.html for details. 2) There's no official download location for up-to-date sources for it, so sooner or later it gets broken anyway and I won't notice, because I no longer use it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I filed a request to drop it completely from distribution. So it's also no longer available internal for SUSE/Novell employees. Feel free to reintroduce it via our openSUSE buildservice if you find it useful. The Source RPM is available on SUSE 10.1 AFAIK. Let me know if you run into problems building it for Factory.
