I installed the new sles11 beta2 build to my eclipz lpar. I noticed that after
the
install the /etc/resolv.conf file did not have the domain set. It was still
set to site.
I did fill in the domain in the install menus so it should have been placed in
the /etc/resolv.conf
file. The name server was placed in the /etc/resolv.conf file.
I don't know think this caused the rpc.statd to fail since I change the
/etc/resolv.conf file and
rpc.statd still does not start.
Here is the /var/log/message when I try to start rpc.statd:
Oct 3 15:16:42 tom165082 rpc.statd[25213]: Version 1.1.3 Starting
Oct 3 15:16:42 tom165082 rpc.statd[25213]: unable to register (statd, 1, udp).
When rpc.statd is not running nfs mounts fail like this:
tom165036:~ # mount 9.3.80.16:/nim/build_net /root/test
I am able to do the mount with the -o nolock option but not sure what problems
this will cause.

Okay. I am able to get into the partition now. and tried to start the daemon
manually but got

nfs-utils package doesn't seem to be installed on the partition and so the
daemons rpc.nfsd,
rpc.mountd, rpc.lockd are not available in /usr/sbin directory.

Suse, We are unable to find nfs-utils package on DVD1 but there is nfs-utils
source rpm on DVD2 of
the sles11 beta2.
jkellner@lslte:/distros/sles11/CD1> find . -name "*nfs-util*" -print
jkellner@lslte:/distros/sles11/CD1> cd ../CD2
jkellner@lslte:/distros/sles11/CD2> find . -name "*nfs-util*" -print
/suse/src/nfs-utils-1.1.3-5.2.src.rpm
I think for an enterprise version of linux the nfs tools should be part of the
default installation.
------- Comment From tmafs@us.ibm.com 2008-10-07 18:02 EDT-------
I did check to see if the nfs-client rpm was installed and it is:
here are all the nfs rpms installed:
(0) root @ tom165082: /usr/sbin
# rpm -qa | grep nfs

yast2-nfs-client-2.17.4-1.4
nfsidmap-0.20-1.22
limal-nfs-server-perl-1.5.0-1.11
And here are the nfs rpms in the install tree on my nfs server from dvd1 and
dvd2
(0) root @ iofnim: /nim/install/linuxsuse_sles11_beta2/suse/ppc64
limal-nfs-server-1.5.0-1.11.ppc64.rpm

sblim-cmpi-nfsv3-1.0.14-82.7.ppc64.rpm

I only see one package in the install tree that is not in the installed system;
nfs-kernel-server-1.1.3-5.2.ppc64.rpm
do I need to install nfs-kernel-server-1.1.3-5.2.ppc64.rpm too???
I did a default install during the install process..

This is a duplicate of bug 48846.
The problem is that nfs-client doesn't provide /etc/sysconfig/nfs (which should
be optional). /etc/init.d/nfs invokes /etc/sysconfig/nfs.

------- Comment From leitao@linux.vnet.ibm.com 2008-10-14 09:03 EDT EDT-------
Novell,
As you know, rpc.statd is not starting in the default SLES10 SP2 installation.
It is returning the following message:
Oct 3 15:16:42 tom165082 rpc.statd[25213]: Version 1.1.3 Starting
Oct 3 15:16:42 tom165082 rpc.statd[25213]: unable to register (statd, 1, udp).
I just get the source package and tried to recompile it by myself, and
strangely enough, this problem doesn't happen when I compile the source code.
I also tried to compile using a lot of options during the "configure" part, and
no luck.
So, this seems to be a problem with the compilation process, or something
related to that.
I'd like to know how do you compile these NFS packages, and what may differ
from your compilation from mine.
Thanks
Breno

For some reason the following comment from Olaf did not come across from Novell
bugzilla...I've cut and pasted it here:
------- Comment #7 From Olaf Hering 2008-10-14 09:06:15 MDT [reply] -------
/var/adm/fillup-templates/sysconfig.nfs-nfs-utils needs to go to
/etc/sysconfig/nfs
Can you check if that helps with beta2?
Should be fixed in beta3.
------- Comment From leitao@linux.vnet.ibm.com 2008-10-14 14:47 EDT EDT-------
Olaf
I checked and the file /etc/sysconfig/nfs was null (but the file existed). So,
I copied the /var/adm/fillup-templates to /etc/sysconfig/nfs and the same
problem happens.
As I told before, if I compile the source package by myself, I don't see this
problem.

Mirroring on this bug appears to be broken still. I'm pasting the last comment
that is in the Novell bugzilla here for the IBM team:
------- Comment #10 From Thorsten Kukuk 2008-10-15 05:50:04 MDT [reply] -------
Reading the announcement, especially the Known Problems section, really helps a
lot before starting testing a Beta.
