[Bug 354964] New: when no DHCP available, netinstall with the mini. iso CD is not straight forward
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=354964 Summary: when no DHCP available, netinstall with the mini.iso CD is not straight forward Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: cyberfee@gmx.li QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Customer I downloaded the http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/iso/cd/openSUSE-10.3-GM-i386-... , burnt to CD and tried to install over net - didn't want to wait and waste bandwidth with stuff (CD, DVD) partly I don't need. Because there was no DHCP on the LAN, I set up the IP and gateway IP manually. But there is no field where I can set the IP of a DNS server!?, and it asks later only for IP addresses and the directories. I asume by default the network install routine gets the IP of a DNS server from DHCP? Maybe there are better workarounds, but didn't know. In the end I did search the opensuse.org mirror list for local mirrors and tried nslookup twice each to get a mirror whose IP resolves back to the domain until I found a mirror who resolves same IP<=>domain in both directions. Then choosed ftp5.gwdg.de <-> 134.76.12.5 After that extra round of boot other system - find an ip for install - noting ip - boot the mini cd - reenter data for install again and then following the further install steps.. After install, that IP is also used for the updates/repositories. Its a bit annoying later too because I better (?) adjust it to a domain name for future software installs etc. So it would be nice to have the ability to insert a domain name for install/software repositoriess from the beginning and not being forced to an IP? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
