I have tried to use pygrub O_DIRECT the image, but still happened This bug depend on the fs of guest OS, Use reiserfs on guest, this bug won't happen. Mount ext3 with "commit=1,sync" on guest, we can't reproduce this bug easily. Step to easily reproduce: 1: modify the /boot/grub/menu.lst of guest domU *2: xm des domU (restart not easily, but once) 3: pygrub the image of domU, you will see the menu.lst not modify. We could see the ino(inode number) not change in /boot/grub directory after modify. because the journal still not commit. It need time to sync. If step2 is sync on guest, which means after rpm -ivh kernel, do fsync /boot/grub/menu.lst and drop_cache immediately, this bug won't happen.
