User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; es-AR; rv:1.9.0.19) Gecko/2010033117 CentOS/3.0.19-1.el4.centos Firefox/3.0.19 After a clean setup of openSUSE 11.3 x86_64, the system on normal boot or reboot freeze on a blank screen randomly. In the /var/log/messages file I found a abnormal kernel result (I attach part of the file). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Customized setup of packages 2. Normal Boot & Reboot 3. Boot & Reboot on Runlevel 3 from GRUB. The attached fraction of /var/log/messages doesn't seem related to the problem you're seeing.
Can you provide some additional information: 1) Where during the boot does the blank screen occur 2) What video hardware 3) Can you try "nomodeset" kernel boot parameter and perhaps remove splash=silent
1) This issue appears on pass from lowres boot screen to the highres boot screen. 2) I use the ATI Radeon X1550 video card. The SAMSUNG SyncMaster 940NW Display Monitor was plugged in the ATI video card. The X11 was the 1440x900 resolution. 3) I add the 'nomodeset' parameter without remove the 'splash=silent' and this solve the issue. I've noted Vertical Lines in the Startup screen, when there is no lines the System Start Normally. Also this is a completely different graphics card. So that's a complete different issue. Camilo, what you could try additional to adding 'nomodeset' is uninstalling the radeonhd driver (package xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd).
