[Bug 771733] New: Time is not correctly changed on time zone settings screen when selecting/deselecting UTC
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=771733 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=771733#c0 Summary: Time is not correctly changed on time zone settings screen when selecting/deselecting UTC Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: RC 1 Platform: PC OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: malv_star@hotmail.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:13.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/13.0 At the Time Zone selection screen during installation, the user can set their system to either set the system clock to UTC or local time. UTC is selected by default. If you UTC is de-selected however, the time displayed on this screen is not correctly changed. For example, if a user is in timezone GMT+8, and their local time is 22:00, then when UTC is selected, the clock on the Time Zone screen will show 14:00 as expected. However, if the user de-selects UTC, instead of increasing the displayed time by 8 hours to show the user's local time, the clock is instead *decreased* by 8 hours, showing 06:00. That is, the difference in time was subtracted instead of added (for zones east of GMT). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run installer 2. De-select automatic setup 3. Go to TimeZone screen 4. De-select "Clock set to UTC". Actual Results: Current time is calculated incorrectly by subtracting instead of adding to the system clock's current time. Expected Results: Time is displayed correctly. I have not tested against timezones west of GMT. I suspect the opposite will happen - time will be added instead of taken away. Presumably a simple sign error and easy fix. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying.
According to log file, it does not look that way. It looks like you have Europe/London +UTC as initial time zone, and than was changing to Australia/Perth, still UTC. That's why I'm confused. The best would be to call commands like: hwclock --localtime hwclock --utc date +%z on the command line right after booting the installation DVD. BTW, is the time wrong after the reboot, or only during installation? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I had to leave the time at UTC in order to get it to show correctly after reboot, otherwise it was incorrect.
This is strange. If UTC were wrong for your case, why would it lead to correct time? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
