Added liferea to install by default and pan as optional to the patterns.
Pan is part of and shown in the GNOME pattern as a suggested package; maybe it's not desired to install it by default? Evolution is also a newsreader and installed by default. Installing 2 packages by default that do the same thing is something we agreed on to avoid when rewriting the patterns. That's why we don't install Thunderbird by default either. http://www.ensode.net/evolution_newsgroups.html -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=220275 ------- Comment #6 from alberto.passalacqua@tin.it 2006-12-13 04:56 MST ------- Ok. but why does liferea appears in both RSS readers and Newsreaders submenu? I don't agree with the choice of Evolution as newsreader, because it's not as friendly as pan, but it's, of course, an opinion of mine. It was also there in the previous release, so I don't see any advantage for the user since now he has to install it manually and re-arrange the menu to remove the wrong entry of liferea. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Ok. but why does liferea appears in both RSS readers and Newsreaders submenu?
Because of bug 225609, which should be fixed for the next release, but is otherwise unrelated.
now he has to install it manually and re-arrange the menu to remove the wrong entry of liferea.
The wrong liferea.desktop entry is an unrelated bug and should be fixed by removing it from the "News" category. The problem here is that the official menu specification[1] does not(!) specify an RSS category. Therefore, the upstream maintainers declared liferea as a newsreader even though it is not a newsreader, because there is nothing better in the specification. [1] http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/menu-spec-1.0.html The wording is "News: A news reader or a news ticker". This should be fixed by deviating from upstream in this specific exception. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
