https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=208004 Summary: Network Manager needs a RESET option Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: tbullock@canada.com QAContact: qa@suse.de My university has wifi distributed across the entire campus. Unfortunately, the network doesn't support any type of wifi handoff. As a result, when I move from one building to another my laptop falls off the network. I have trouble resetting the NetworkManager once I am in range of a new access point. Normally, I would expect the network to figure the connection stuff to the new access point in the backend transparently once I am within range, however NetworkManager almost always gets confused and no amount of toggling NetworkManager switches or hardware switches on the laptop can rectify. Usually I am forced to reboot, to get back onto the network. I would like an option in NetworkManager to Start from Scratch, or Reset Networking that would more or less emulate a reboot, but just for the networking. Currently, my laptop (on which I am writing this) uses an Intel 2915 abg wireless adapter. -Ted -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=208004 rml@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution| |INVALID ------- Comment #1 from rml@novell.com 2006-09-27 09:57 MST ------- There is a reset option: Right click, disable network, then re-enable network. You could also do '/etc/init.d/network restart' to restart the entire daemon. If things still do not work, your wireless driver is getting stuck, and please file a non-enhancement bug against that. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
