After the tumbleweed update last week my pi 4 8GB also stops booting from USB. It worked again after adding

BOOT_ORDER=0xf14

with rpi-eeprom-config. (I also updated the EEPROM Bootloder there.) I'm not sure, if it helps in other cases too.
