[Bug 944188] New: Kernel fills up /var/log/warn when accessing MMC
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=944188 Bug ID: 944188 Summary: Kernel fills up /var/log/warn when accessing MMC Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: darren@freemaninstruments.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Using a kernel from OBS Kernel Stable, 4.1.6-2.gce0123d-desktop Running on a Dell Inspiron 1537, 64 bit. I just found my root filesystem basically full. The culprit is my /var/log/warn file which has grown to 1.8 GB. Inspecting the end of this file, the issue seems to be an almost endless repetition of the following. Yes, I have been accessing an SD-CARD over the last few days, reading and writing images for a Raspberry Pi. I can't even remember the last time that I'd used the MMC slot prior to that. I did notice my system running very sluggish during these operations. ------------[ cut here ]------------ 2015-09-01T14:19:47.224173+10:00 buffy kernel: [285775.355555] WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 977 at ../drivers/mtd/nand/r852.c:749 r852_irq+0x1e1/0x260 [r852]() 2015-09-01T14:19:47.224175+10:00 buffy kernel: [285775.355556] Modules linked in: cdc_acm cytherm nls_iso8859_1 nls_cp437 vfat fat uas usb_storage mmc_block fuse rfcomm nf_log_ipv6 xt_pkttype xt_TCPMSS nf_log_ipv4 nf_log_common xt_LOG xt_limit scsi_transport_iscsi rpcsec_gss_krb5 auth_rpcgss nfsv4 dns_resolver nf s lockd grace sunrpc fscache vboxpci(O) vboxnetadp(O) vboxnetflt(O) vboxdrv(O) iscsi_ibft iscsi_boot_sysfs af_packet ip6t_REJECT xt_tcpudp nf_conntrack_ipv6 nf_defrag_ipv6 ip6table_raw ipt_REJECT iptable_raw xt_CT iptable_filter ip6table_mangle nf_conntrack_netbios_ns nf_conntrack_broadcast nf_conntrack_ipv4 nf_d efrag_ipv4 ip_tables xt_conntrack nf_conntrack ip6table_filter ip6_tables x_tables bnep btusb btbcm btintel bluetooth iTCO_wdt iTCO_vendor_support dell_wmi s parse_keymap uvcvideo snd_hda_codec_idt snd_hda_codec_generic videobuf2_vmalloc videobuf2_memops videobuf2_core snd_hda_codec_hdmi v4l2_common snd_hda_intel snd_hda_controller snd_hda_codec snd_hda_core snd_hwdep snd_pcm_oss videodev dell_laptop dcdbas coretemp kvm_intel i8k snd_pcm kvm pcspkr joydev serio_raw i2 c_i801 snd_seq snd_seq_device snd_timer lpc_ich mfd_core r852 sm_common nand nand_ecc nand_bch bch nand_ids mtd r592 memstick sdhci_pci sdhci mmc_core arc4 s nd_mixer_oss iwldvm mac80211 snd tg3 ptp pps_core libphy iwlwifi cfg80211 rfkill ir_xmp_decoder ir_lirc_codec lirc_dev ir_mce_kbd_decoder soundcore ir_sharp_ decoder ir_sanyo_decoder ir_sony_decoder shpchp ir_jvc_decoder ir_rc6_decoder thermal wmi ir_rc5_decoder ir_nec_decoder battery rc_rc6_mce acpi_cpufreq ite_c ir rc_core video ac button processor reiserfs dm_crypt twofish_generic twofish_x86_64_3way xts lrw gf128mul glue_helper twofish_x86_64 twofish_common algif_s kcipher af_alg firewire_ohci firewire_core crc_itu_t radeon i2c_algo_bit drm_kms_helper ttm drm dm_mirror dm_region_hash dm_log dm_mod sg 2015-09-01T14:19:47.224178+10:00 buffy kernel: [285775.355631] CPU: 0 PID: 977 Comm: systemd-journal Tainted: G W O 4.1.3-4.gf45c09a-desktop #1 2015-09-01T14:19:47.224181+10:00 buffy kernel: [285775.355632] Hardware name: Dell Inc. I think maybe my system needs to be more heavily loaded. Will report back when I can reproduce this.
I guess the problem is relevant with suspend. Try suspend in your test. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Suddenly the mouse pointer is freezing about once per second and then jumping to the next position. But then that went away and the system appeared normal while writing.
This can be a normal case. The bulk inflight data was flushed, and it interferes the other read/write. A similar problem can be seen when you write a huge file on a doggy slow USB stick, too. In anyway, I set NEEDINFO flag. Clear NEEDINFO once when you find the way to reproduce the problem, and test the quickfix KMP to see whether it fixes or not. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
