[Bug 616713] New: radeon [XPRESS 200 5A61] shows artifacts in KDE4 and slows the whole system down
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=616713 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=616713#c0 Summary: radeon [XPRESS 200 5A61] shows artifacts in KDE4 and slows the whole system down Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rkrell@gmx.net QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Depends on: 605171 Found By: --- Blocker: --- +++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #605171 +++ I'm on OpenSUSE 11.3 RC1 + current factory packages. The KDE4 composite mode works stable, but I get several artifacts, not only on KDE applications, but also with MozillaFirefox, see the original report. Furthermore, after several hours of working I notice everytime a slowdown of the system, first the KDEč composite mode deactivates automatically due to its automatic performance checks, later all applications run noticable slow and I have to restart to get my OS running faster. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I added a download service for downloading it automatically (hopefully each time it changes): <services> <service name="download_url"> <param name="host">cgit.freedesktop.org</param> <param name="protocol">http</param> <param name="path">/xorg/driver/xf86-video-ati/snapshot/xf86-video-ati-master.tar.bz2</param> </service> </services> Isn't that the right way? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This is from the _service file entry, using the "Remote File URI:" on adding a file instead of adding a local one.
Indeed an interesting feature.
Actually I'm not sure whether and in which case the file is refetched.
That would have been my first question. :-) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I assume the following fix to make the job regarding the freezes in KMS mode: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-ati/commit/?id=c8ea942bd0... Again, I'm back on KMS with radeon and it works fine, now. Hopefully the latest radeon driver will land in OpenSUSE 11.3 including its boot media. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

BTW: There is a button to retrigger the download, no automatic download is done by the device file entry. On the other hand, an autmatic build of the linked package is done as soon as the linked original target package from Xorg:X11 changes. Good OBS feature, in fact. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It is only an assumption, because after that patch arrived in master I triggered refetching and rebuilding and installed the package, because it seemed interesting to me. The last state I tried was before that patch. It is still subjective, of course, because the problem happened only sometimes and after some hours and could not be safely reproduced within a short time frame. At the moment, my system run stable for the whole work day even under big workload, what I haven't seen before with the factorz packages. If I get some time I can apply only that single patch to see what happens with this. The system hung mostly in KDE4 when GTK applications got focus, for instance Eclipse, MozillaFirefox and Pidgin. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
