[Bug 1123348] Error in make kernel or its documentation. Missing targets.

Since v4.17-rc1, the "silentoldconfig" target was renamed to "syncconfig" and "silentoldconfig" was kept as an alias for backward compatibility (with deprecation warning). Since 4.20-rc1, "silentoldconfig" is no longer available. To make things worse, "syncconfig" is not available before 4.17-rc1 so that one needs different target for branches based on kernel <= 4.16 and for those based on >= 4.20. :-( Currently only master and stable (i.e. Tumbleweed) need "make syncconfig" but all future branches (e.g. SLE15-SP2 and openSUSE-15.2) will also belong to this group. I guess we could either (a) mention both in the documentation with explanation which to use or (b) change to "syncconfig" in packaging branch and revert it back to "silentoldconfig" in all pre-4.17 branches which merge from packaging I don't really like either option so I'll think about it some more when I'm back from vacation. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
