Write something wrong and right click to see the proposal. Of course you cannot write any "Umlaut" and have to switch back by hand.

My understanding is the following: 1. Firefox shows red wave dashes under the wrong word. 2. Then you click right button over that word to show the pop-up menu. 3. At the same time, the keyboard layout go back to Spanish 4. You cannot write any Umlaut into a text area of Firefox. Is it correct? I cannot reproduce this problem, using Japanese and English layouts with English US dictionary. IBus provides feature to use different keyboard layout for each application (window). I guess there's something wrong with it. To disable it, can you try to turn on "Share the same input method among all applications", which is available from "Advanced" tab of ibus-setup. The switch is happening regardless if using correction in English or in German but it annoys only in German as you are deprived of the Umlaut feature. Does the problem happens no matter where you click right button on Firefox? (other than words over the underlined word)
