[Bug 584084] New: fglrx-drivers were still build against the older kernel 2.6.31.5-0.1 in the ATI-Repo
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=584084 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=584084#c0 Summary: fglrx-drivers were still build against the older kernel 2.6.31.5-0.1 in the ATI-Repo Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: freespacer@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=345466) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=345466) YaST - dialog window about a wrong checksum User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.2.0) Gecko/20100115 SUSE/3.6.0-1.2 Firefox/3.6 Hello, many users have a problem with the ATI-Repo, because they have a newer kernel version. In the ATI-Repo exists still an older flgrx-driver, that was build against the older kernel 2.6.31.5-0.1. If you try to install the fglrx-driver, yast opens a dialog window and it shows a message with the wrong checksum of the RPM. Somebody have to tell ATI, that they should build fglrx-driver against our newer kernel in the update-repo. It will be said that the issue will be resolved very urgently, because we have linked our YaST software-repository to the ATI repo. Many users are annoyed. Thanks. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. start YaST 2. try to install fglrx-driver from ATI-Repo Actual Results: See attachement. Sorry, about german message. It shows a dialog window with the message about a wrong checksum. Alternativ: Look here in the ATI-Repo filelists: http://www2.ati.com/suse/11.2/repodata/filelists.xml.gz Expected Results: Install fglrx-driver from ATI-Repo without any message and problems. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Building against an older kernel release is no issue as long as the kABI doesn't change, which didn't for 11.2 until now - as far as I know.
Wrong checksum is a completely different issue - already known and apparently still not addressed. Probably it would be the best to remove the ATI repos again from our communitiy repos for openSUSE.
Hmmmm..... Mr. Dirsch, will you be so kind and recommend me some user friendly and FUNCTIONAL driver for ATI graphic card in oS 11.2? In the concrete: laptop Lenovo R500 with ATI Radeon Mobility 3400 series. I have tried open drivers (radeon, radeonhd) - installation is default and without problem, but: 2D movies in various players are snatchy (everywhere), 3D power (checked in glxgears) is quite unusable. I also have tried installation from proprietary *.run file (downloaded directly from ATI) - I was not succesfull, installation has always end with unspecified bug. By the way - the necessity of new driver installation after any kernel upgrade is maybe only nightmare, isn't it so? The third way - installation of precompiled driver from ATI repository mentioned above - is impossible because of its bug... Finally, I was forced to install Linux Mint, where all three drivers (radeon/radeonhd/fglrx) are in repository and their function is perfect. But it is not solution for me, I would like to use openSUSE as on my other PCs... Thank you. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
