[Bug 1024652] New: NetworkManger changes hostname
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1024652 Bug ID: 1024652 Summary: NetworkManger changes hostname Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.2 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: sweet_f_a@gmx.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- When openSUSE is booting up it sets the hostname from /etc/hostname without using the domain part. (Though it's questionable that it does something else than "hostname -F /etc/HOSTNAME", this is well known SUSE behavior.) When starting NetworkManager it re-sets the hostname FQDN from /etc/hostname. That's confusing and causes other programs to behave differently depending on NetworkManager is already started or not. I don't think there is any need to use two different hostnames during startup. And also no good reason why traditional network setup (wicked) and NM will cause different hostnames. As a side note NetworkManager does NOT set the hostname on "rcnetwork reload" which should be done if changing hostname is wanted at all. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I noticed it while looking for a solution with flatpak apps. Basically when I start my laptop and start a flatpak immediately before WiFi connection is established it starts without a problem but when WiFi is connected I get "Cannot open display" error. Turned out that "echo $XAUTHLOCALHOSTNAME" and "hostname" commands outputs are different. Resetting a hostname in Yasts Network Settings solves the problem but only until reboot. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Not sure if it is the same bug but it seems to me that it is.

Turned out that "echo $XAUTHLOCALHOSTNAME" and "hostname" commands outputs are different. Resetting a hostname in Yasts Network Settings solves the problem but only until reboot.
Yep, it seems like it. I would say it is a duplicate of that bug. Anyway, hostnamectl --static set-hostname NORM07 fixes the problem (not sure yet if it fixes the problem permanently) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
