[Bug 695323] New: Yast2> Hardware> Joystick fails
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=695323 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=695323#c0 Summary: Yast2> Hardware> Joystick fails Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: n5xwb@comcast.net QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=430757) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=430757) output from hwinfo and lsusb User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:6.0a1) Gecko/20110517 Firefox/6.0a1 Yast2>Harware>Joystick fails to find a USB joystick and complains about a game port. hwinfo and lsusb find it but Yast2 fails. This version came from a DVD about 2 weeks ago Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.plug the joystick in and bootup 2. login and call Yast2 > Hardware > joystick 3.Note a error meesage saying something about a "game port" Actual Results: "No joystick port to configure was found" "The configured cards do not support the joystick" "Start sound card configure" "Yes/No" Expected Results: Like hwinfo (module mounted) and lsusb >Bus 004 Device 002: ID 06a3:0464 Saitek PLC Cyborg Evo. Yast2 is looking for a game port and not for one missing . This is a new ASUS Athlon64x4 motherboard. It has no game ports or serial ports I suspect this problem is getting more common with the lack of serial ports. It is found while in X by Flightgear and usable by Xorg. If you need assistance please ask. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The module doesn't support USB joysticks as they should be automatically configured by USB hotplug system and in general should work out of box without any configuration. So actually it's not a bug. But the error messages should be enhanced so it's clear that USB joysticks are not supported. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

However, it has always work from back 15 years or so as a USB device. Now it is reported as not hooked up yet X finds it OK. I think it is a change to the yast2>hardware>joystick module which causes the joystick to not be found . A "cat /dev/input/js0" and move it shows it is working in a knosole or console. I will also look in /etc/udev but the above "cat" shows it is being spotted. And hwinfo --joystick does not show anything. So the problem may be there. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hwinfo now correctly detects joysticks and YaST supports both USB and Gameport joysticks. See http://lslezak.blogspot.com/2011/10/opensuse-hackweek-vii-hacking-usb.html for more details. The fix should be available in openSUSE-12.1-RC1. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As you stated "no gameport" is still in 12.1 B1. So if you can point me to a site or email me the file with your repair, I will install it in /usr/share/YaST2/modules. And give Yast2>Hardware>Joystick another try. the Joystick I have is a Saitek Cyborg EVO which is a USB stick -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

All these packages are available at FACTORY-OSS repo (http://download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/oss) and should be part of 12.1-RC1. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
