I am using the packman packages for amarok and mplayer. For amarok, I try to use the xine backend with output to alsa. For mplayer, I get for example:

And this will start pulseaudio because the native esound was dropped and replaced with the pulseaudio. You can still remove pulseaudio-esound-compat (with --nodeps rpm option), and then pulse won't be triggered any more.
