Had to manually add user to the groups necessary for the user to have access to regular user functions. A clean install with KDE or LXDE did not produce this issue. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start a clean installation 2. Select GNOME as the default DE during installation 3. Add user during installation 4. That's the expected behavior.
Had to manually add user to the groups necessary for the user to have access to regular user functions.
Which groups did you need to add?
A clean install with KDE or LXDE did not produce this issue.
A clean KDE installation gives me the expected same result. What's different for you?
Expected Results: User should also belong to at least the "users" and "cdrom" groups by default after installation.
"users" is the main group, you don't need to add the user a second time there. Of course, if you change the main group, then you need to change that for you, too. But the default is correct. No user should ever be part of "cdrom" by default. That would a very big security problem. Why should this be necessary? The desktop automounter don't need this. Whatever it was, the "users" group did not show in the results at that time. I do remember however that I added the user to "cdrom" to avoid the system's prompt for the root password upon trying to mount a DVD and a USB disk as these were not automatically mounted by the desktop automounter as you indicate that they should have.
