[Bug 456162] New: Desktop icons disappear after awhile
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=456162 Summary: Desktop icons disappear after awhile Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: j.lange@epic.ca QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I'm running Factory with the latest updates. I've noticed that after I've been logged in for a while all of my icons on the desktop disappear. I really can't say how long it takes for this to happen because I usually have applications full-screen which covers the icons. I'm wondering if this could be related to the new dynamic background that changes throughout the day? I don't think this is related to the KDE bug 419786. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If I open Nautilus from the launch menu, yes it seems normal. However the desktop is completely empty of icons. The background remains normal. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But why is it crashing? Originally I did the beta5 install preserving my existing home directory and I think this might be related. I noticed that I have 2 SUSE icons on the desktop and when I try and move one of them by dragging it complains that there is already an file with the same name. However, it doesn't crash at that point so maybe thats not related. I couldn't find "/apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop" but I'm sure its turned on since the icons are there when I originally boot. Here is a listing of Desktop.

That's another bug.

Run gconf-editor for gconf stuff :-) Okay. When it happens, can you try running "nautilus" in a GNOME terminal? I'm nearly sure that launching nautilus another way will make it not draw the desktop... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
