It's no bug but a feature of PA. What do you mean "just bad unclear" exactly? I see no big problem in the mixer setup (except for low Master volume). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=631701 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=631701#c2 --- Comment #2 from Daniel Pecka <nettezzaumanaa@gmail.com> 2010-08-20 15:23:56 UTC --- hello, 1) i am not using pulseaudio - i am using KDE but it behaves same also in twm with no additional KDE related stuff up 2) what is also very confusing to me is fact, that lspci prints out like i have two sound cards 3) unclear just means that sound in Linux is evidently worse then in windows .. i can't say this with sure, but it seems like only the front repro is working - subwoofer not .. feel free to demand whichever constructable output which you would use to determine if is true or false what i've wrote above .. regards, daniel -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=631701 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=631701#c3 --- Comment #3 from Takashi Iwai <tiwai@novell.com> 2010-08-20 15:33:32 UTC --- Then your sound backend is set up not using "default" PCM (dmix + softvol), I suppose. PCM volume appearing there is working only for softvol alsa-plugin. If the apps or the backend are using the direct access, it'll be skipped. I don't know exactly what KDE is using nowadays... And, indeed, your machine have multiple codecs, i.e. completely individual hardware components, one for analog and one for HDMI, in your machine. So, lspci is correct. About "unclearness"... it's hard to judge as long as the bug description itself is unclear ;) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

See the checkbox below the form. If model=hp-dv5 fixes the bug, I can simply add your device to the quirk list. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

FRONT channel is not working at all regards, daniel -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It's a good step forward ;) Does the problem (1) remain even if you model=hp-dv5? (Or what actually "fixes" mode=hp-dv5?) [Don't forget to reset NEEDINFO flag when you answer to this question!] The problem (2) is no driver issue but it's an application or sound-backend problem. As mentioned, this mixer element is an alsa-lib softvol plugin. If the app or its backend doesn't use the alsa-lib config including this plugin, it won'r work. The fact that it starts working after S3 is just a coincidence -- or it's a bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

(Upload it, don't paste it to the text form.) And, which volumes work and which don't with this option? Regarding HDMI output: how did you test it exactly? Doesn't "aplay -Dplug:hdmi:1 foo.wav" work? Resetting NEEDINFO by reporter is important because developers filter the pending bugs by this flag. If NEEDINFO is still set, he regards it as an unanswered bug item.
