[Bug 993639] New: ucode-intel should fix the skylake bug
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=993639 Bug ID: 993639 Summary: ucode-intel should fix the skylake bug Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.1 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: sweet_f_a@gmx.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- You may have heard about the well known "Skylake" bug, affecting all recent Intel CPUs. http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/01/intel-skylake-bug-causes-pcs-to-freez... http://mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=20714 The bug is about broken AVX2 instruction set which is even used within the kernel's raid modules. That's why I'd consider this even critical. I think we should update to the latest ucode-intel package for any maintained openSUSE release, at least for the upcoming Leap 42.2. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Does it need explicit update triggering for Leap from SLE Update repos by Leap project manager or maintenance team or similar?
In this case, yes. ucode-intel came from Factory in 42.1 and Factory packages are not sent back to the stable release automatically¹. Neither as online update for 42.1, nor for 42.2. So, if ucode-intel should follow SLE, it has to be submitted from there once. Note that the Factory and SLE packages differy slightly, it's a good idea to merge both. updated package went into 42.[12]
Thanks!
The sle submission got rejected due to missing bug references. I suggest to update the Factory package, retrofitting the bug number and submit that to SLE then.
