However: (1) this change is not documented in the man page (2) the man page does not describe how to change the default back again (3) Files encrypted under 10.3 cannot be unencrypted under at least some other systems, e.g. SuSE 10.2 and Windows: see bug 385951 mcrypt is designed to be a simple program usable by people with no understanding of cryptography, so in my opinion it is vital that defaults are chosen to provide maximum interoperability.
