[Bug 211113] New: [EXCHANGE BETA] Evolution Offline Synchronization Behavior
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=211113 Summary: [EXCHANGE BETA] Evolution Offline Synchronization Behavior Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SLED 10 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Evolution AssignedTo: kharish@novell.com ReportedBy: delder@novacoast.com QAContact: anagappan@novell.com This is more of a feature request than a bug, but with the current offline synchronization implementation evolution is essentially unuseable against Groupwise for large mail folders. I have 20,000 messages in my Inbox (certainly more than many users but some of ours have far more and won't ever change) and when I get new mail evolution will sometimes go into a prolonged "Donwloading New Messages for Offline Mode" which takes over an hour. In the meantime, it won't keep checking for new mail and switching mail folders results in a several minute delay before it will display their contents. Is there some way to have the offline synchronization thread run independently of the mail checking thread so that new mail can continue to come in while the offline synchronization takes place? The current behavior makes evolution very unresponsive but it doesn't always do what appears to be a full resynch on ever new batch of mail that comes in, only sometimes. If I can determine under what circumstances evolution performs a full mail resync I'll post more. I will attach the console output from the debug logs. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

After that, unless the cache is cleared, it should not re-download the mails. IF you see a contrary behavior, can you tell me on what scenarios it happens? I never have found such a behavior in GW Provider. Also, when you have faced this scenario, was the re-fetching happening on all folders or only on specific folders ? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=211113 ------- Comment #3 from delder@novacoast.com 2006-11-16 20:08 MST ------- I haven't been able to track down exactly what conditions this occurs under but it does happen fairly frequently. I only have evolution set to check in my INBOX for new messages so it only occurs for that folder but I can turn it on for all folders if needed. It may not necessarily be downloading messages for offline use, it could just be checking for new mail. I'll capture a screenshot next time it happens. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=211113 ------- Comment #4 from delder@novacoast.com 2006-11-17 10:56 MST ------- One condition which certainly triggers this is bug 209414 and I will attach a screenshot of evolution re-downloading all of my mail after it has lost track of everything. It's not always this severe though, in many situations it will just re-sync everything for unknown reasons. In this particular case (the screenshot to be attached shortly), evolution lost all of my mail from my INBOX (not just new mail). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=211113 ------- Comment #7 from delder@novacoast.com 2006-11-17 11:59 MST ------- During the downloading of new messages for offline use, the "check new mail" thread doesn't ever run so no new mail is displayed. Since it will take ~ 4 hours to download my INBOX for offline use I'm without access to any new mail during that time. That's one of the biggest problems with the offline synchronization. It should still check for new mail while it downloads for offline use. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

We need readCursor only when we are using multiple clients i.e., Evolution IMAP, GW, X-Plat client. Otherwise the getQM should be sufficient. The patch does this. Patch also introduces a new environmental variable setting which will make Evolution to perform a readCursor only on: 1) Pressing F9 2) Visiting a folder for first time So users who are not specific about using Evolution-SOAP alone, can make use of this environment variable. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
