[Bug 483821] New: Display Names instead of devices for connections
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=483821 Summary: Display Names instead of devices for connections Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: marcel@hilzinger.hu QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de_DE.UTF-8; rv:1.8.1.17) Gecko/20061201 Firefox/2.0.0.17 (Ubuntu-feisty) Networkmanager shows the recognized network devices with typical linux device names, like eth0, wlan0 oder ath0. The average user has no idea about linux device names, so Networkmanager should use real names like Intel Wireless 2100 or Atheros Wireless or Intel Ethernet. It should at least give a hint about which one is LAN, WLAN, UMTS (Bluetooth?). The problem is especially heavy, when you are using a wlan device from Intel, so it's named eth0 or eth1, what's very confusing. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Click on the Networkmanager-Applet (KDE, gnome should be the same) 2. Chose "New Connection" 3. Decide, which one is LAN, which one is WLAN -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
