[Bug 742078] New: lxdm confusion for left-handed mouse users
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=742078 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=742078#c0 Summary: lxdm confusion for left-handed mouse users Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: LXDE AssignedTo: andrea@opensuse.org ReportedBy: peter@renault4.plus.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1 I'm using LXDM with the Industrial theme, which as far as I know is the only theme shipped with openSUSE that currently provides a user list at login. In the DE (XFCE in this case) I have set all user accounts to left-handed mouse operation in the Settings Manager, but LXDM doesn't know about this setting so defaults to right-hand. The problem is that when a left-hander, using what they assume to be the principal mouse button (right), clicks on their username in the list, this activates the password box exactly the same as if they used the left mouse button, yet on entering a correct password it always fails and returns to the user list. There is no indication of why this happens, so it would be better if a click with the secondary button on this list did nothing at all. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. With the Industrial theme in LXDM, do a right-click on a username (assuming there is no option in lxdm-conf to set left-handed mouse mode - I'm not aware of one). 2. The password box appears just the same as it does with a left-click - try to log in with the regular password. 3. Password is rejected and returns to user list. Expected Results: A right-click (or secondary click) should probably either produce a contextual menu, achieve nothing at all, or be coded to act precisely the same as a left-click so as not to cause this confusion. For a typical use case, take Bob who is left-handed and has set his mouse as such in his DE of choice, but uses LXDM to login (where I believe Industrial is the default theme in openSUSE). Unless he is aware this requires right-handed mode of operation, or opts to use the keyboard instead to select his username, he will seem to be constantly barred from logging in or think there's a problem with X not starting. I'm not sure if there is a 'xxx failed attempts and you're locked out' password policy that could further frustrate users in this situation. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
