[Bug 748729] New: LibreOffice 3.4.4 OOO340m1 (Build:1403)'s Writer often (99%) crashes when exporting certain odt files to XHTML or when saving into doc, docx, & xml
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=748729 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=748729#c0 Summary: LibreOffice 3.4.4 OOO340m1 (Build:1403)'s Writer often (99%) crashes when exporting certain odt files to XHTML or when saving into doc, docx, & xml Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: LibreOffice AssignedTo: bnc-team-ooo@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: publio.escipion.el.africano@gmail.com QAContact: cwei@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:10.0.2) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0.2 openSuSE 12.1 x86_64 Final + Updates, KDE 4, LibreOffice 3.4.4 OOO340m1 (Build:1403) LibreOffice 3.4.4 OOO340m1 (Build:1403)'s Writer often (99%) crashes when exporting certain odt files to XHTML or when saving into doc, docx, & xml. When Writer does not crash (1%), it informs the following error: "Error al guardar el documento <filename>: Error de escritura. No se ha podido escribir el archivo." (English: There has been an error when saving the file <filename>: write error. The file can not be written.") The whole path to the location where I intend to save is +rwx, and belongs to me. The lenght of the path is not relevant, because Writer crashes whe saving in smaller path, such as $HOME (/home/......./). I realized that simple and tiny documents, mainly text, are saved fine. But documents 155 pages lenght, containing numerous images (6), OLE objects (20) and tables (20), Indexes (2), and many internal cross references, 12Mb, produces this crash. If user previously has not saved the document into odt, could lost data. If user tried to bypass this issue by sending the document as MS Word Document by e-mail, he will get the following error message (Thunderbird): "El archivo file:///tmp/*******.tmp/*******.tmp/<filename> no existe por lo que no ha podido adjuntarse al mensaje." (English: "The file file:///tmp/*******.tmp/*******.tmp/<filename> does not exists, so it can not be attached to the message.") But Writer does not crash. Saving as ODT works fine. Saving to HTML works fine, although Writer renders an awfull html code. Export to PDF, directly or by File > Export..., works fine. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Load a document of the kind described. 2.Save as.../Export to XHTML, doc, docx, & xml, or send document as MS Word Document by e-mail. 3. Actual Results: Often (99%) Writer crahes; seldom (1%), it complains. Expected Results: Writer saved/exported finely to XHTML, doc, docx, & xml. I have noticed this issue since the release of 12.1, but, as I prioritized the writing related issues, I have postponed the time to submit this troubling bug: files are often requested in MS Word formats. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

After removing heavy images and OLE objects, and extra page layouts, from the document I previously shared to you, I think that I have isolated a specific segment that makes LibreOffice to crash. The segment handled as an independent .odt seems to be exported fine to .docx, but makes LibreOffice to crash at load. I will send you it by e-mail. Thank you. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I suspect the original problem (crash when saving docx) is caused by the tables inside your document 2. The Comment 14 problem might be caused by the 'Keywords' properties. So the temporary workaround could be: 1. redesign the tables or remove them, it is likely to workaround the 'Export' problem 2. remove the 'Keywords' (File->Properties...) in odt then export to docx, it is likely to workaround the 'Load' problem. For the bug fixing, we may need more effort and investigation, so I suggest to open an individual bug for your findings stated in the Comment 14. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
