(And it is a Times-like serif font.) The font was created by several scientific publishers: American Institute of Physics, American Physical Society, American Chemical Society, American Mathematical Society, IEEE, and Elsevier and has thus high quality. The main focus is on special symbols - especially mathematical. If this font is installed, the MathML output by Mozilla Firefox is also improved. And the fonts can also be used for TeX. Licence: SIL Open Font License (OFL). The "SIL OPEN FONT LICENSE" (short: "OFL" or "Open Font License", http://scripts.sil.org/OFL) is OSI approved (http://opensource.org/licenses/openfont.html) and should pose no problems.
