[Bug 649054] New: Amarok crashes at startup after update
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=649054 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=649054#c0 Summary: Amarok crashes at startup after update Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: furoxbuzz@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=396868) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=396868) Amarok Debugging Info User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.10) Gecko/20100914 SUSE/3.6.10-0.3.1 Firefox/3.6.10 Amarok crashes every time it starts. The problem appeared after updating the system. I suspect the problem is with the NVDIA Driver repository, because I reinstalled OpenSUSE 11.3 and updated it and started Amarok with no problem but after installing the NVIDIA Driver from the "One-Click Install" it started to crash. I tried deleting everything related to Amarok in the .kde4 directory and I also tried creating/logging with a different user but the problem still persist. Can you try if the problem goes away if you uninstall the NVIDIA driver?
After uninstalling the NVIDIA driver from YaST2, Amarok starts OK without crashing. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Many issues are related to the current nVidia driver. Even plasma can crash at startup. It's working with nvidia driver 260.19.12 installed via .run-file though. There are several bugreports on kde.org relating to those issues, all of them closed mentioning this is a nvidia issue. Maybe this report should be changed towards suse's nvidia package for it is related to it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I did some tests with two different installations. On a 32bit machine with GF7xxx and 260.19.21: * KDE 4.4 works - Amarok crashes * KDE 4.5 does not work - Plasma crashes on startup Installing Nvidia Driver Version 256.53 solves the issues in both cases. Interesting is that my second machine did not have those issues with the same driver/KDE version. The difference is, that it is a 64bit machine and the GPU is a GTX260. I've moved from KDE 4.5 to KDE 4.6 RC1 today - also without any problems. I tried to report that bug via DrKonqi then and got a list of possible DUPLs and most of them were closed (not soved!) referring to a problem with nVidia. I didn't write them down. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=251719 might be one of them.
