[Bug 554010] New: knetworkmanager malfunctioning
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=554010 Summary: knetworkmanager malfunctioning Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: RC 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: ruchir.brahmbhatt@ecosmob.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.4) Gecko/20091014 SUSE/3.5.4-143.1 Firefox/3.5.4 I'm not too sure which component is culprit but I think knetworkmanager. Today when I booted my laptop, internet didn't work. I did some diagnostics and found out that I can ping gateway but none of the external ip or domains. I can't ping isp dns server also. After lots of analysis, I found that default route was missing. When I type route command, I don't see default route. I added manually using "route add default gw 192.168.1.1" and then it started working. I have to do this every time and it doesn't assign default gateway automatically. This problem usually happens when both wired and wireless devices are set to "start on boot". Changing the wired one to "start on cable connection" is the fix.
If you mean "Connect automatically" setting, I have it disabled for both wired and wireless. I have kept wireless switch off on laptop. System connection does get default route but custom connection doesn't contain default route. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

NetworkManager-0.8-8.2.1.x86_64 As per instructions found on internet, I removed networkmaange-kde4 and use networkmanager widget. If I use NetworkManager mode, network doesn't work at all. I have to use traditional ifup method only. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There the stick never actually dials in. I failed getting reasonable debug output regarding the failure. The report you linked to was a bug that was fixed upstream, I am unsure about the state on 11.3 but I wasn't affected anymore for quite some time so I just assume this is fixed, nm now uses two different files to track status. The begin of your bugreport was about missing routes which is something different. It sounds like it is working for you now so I close it as fixed, if it still persists please reopen. If it is a different bug please make a new one.
