There was an ntpd process running after boot. After killing it, the init scripts finished and I got the console. Booting into run level 3 or 2 end with the boot sequence hung and no prompt. NTP was turned on for run levels 2, 3 and 5. During installation I pointed it to a remote time server and turned on the service. After removing the ntp service the systems boots normally. This machine is a laptop, with the use of the networkmanager, it'll get wirelessly online only after logging in. This bug makes this machine unusable if it is booted into run levels 2 or 3.
