Since I have no xen hypervisor but only qemu/kvm, I get the error hyervisor not runnung... It works nicely when I comment out the application of this patch from the specfile. So the patch seems to hook in at the wrong layer, unless virt-manager is only meant as a front-end for XEN on suse systems. Could you comment on what you would consider the right approach? For kvm this is currently simply broken. Yep. The patch I was referring to "Patch6: virtman-vminstall.diff" is from the source rpm pf virt-manager. Just install the source rpm, go to /usr/src/packages/SPECS/virt-manager.spec and you'll find it. This refers to /usr/src/packages/SOURCES/virtman-install.diff Looking at that patch, I was able to tell that this was replacing the original code by something xen-specific. I just commented out the "Patch6: ..." and "%patch6 ..." lines in the spec file and rebuilt.
