KMS with Radeon works and I get compositing immediately working, I will add the Xorg.0.log for you to have another success story. Just one more question concerning this: Is this the expected behaviour of YaST during an _upgrade_ not to enable the optimal settings for the driver? I used radeon before, true, and I wasn't asked during the installation to do something. How can I get YaST to do it better on the next kernel update? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

You could check that with 'rpm -qa --last'.

No, that's a different one. Anyway, mkinitrd has been fixed. That's not the issue here. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If that's true I believe we're missing a Prereq: mkinitrd in our kernel specfiles. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Here are the outputs, but probably all is fine: rpm -qa --last|egrep 'mkinitrd|kernel' mkinitrd-2.5.10-21.4 Wed 16 Jun 2010 03:23:15 PM CEST kernel-desktop-base-2.6.34-9.3 Wed 16 Jun 2010 02:23:25 PM CEST kernel-desktop-2.6.34-9.3 Wed 16 Jun 2010 02:21:38 PM CEST kernel-firmware-20100227-4.1 Tue 15 Jun 2010 05:35:05 PM CEST rpm -q --requires kernel-desktop-base rpmlib(VersionedDependencies) <= 3.0.3-1 coreutils awk module-init-tools perl-Bootloader mkinitrd /bin/sh /bin/sh /bin/sh /bin/sh rpmlib(PartialHardlinkSets) <= 4.0.4-1 rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1 rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1 rpmlib(PayloadIsLzma) <= 4.4.6-1 rpm -q --requires kernel-desktop rpmlib(VersionedDependencies) <= 3.0.3-1 coreutils awk module-init-tools >= 3.4 perl-Bootloader >= 0.4.15 mkinitrd /bin/sh /bin/sh /bin/sh /bin/sh rpmlib(PartialHardlinkSets) <= 4.0.4-1 rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1 rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1 rpmlib(PayloadIsLzma) <= 4.4.6-1 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hence was not created correctly when it was running in %post of kernel update. IMHO adding Prereq: mkinitrd to the kernel packages would fix that issue, but I'm not sure whether it will be accepted by the kernel guys.
