[Bug 899610] New: I have an extra static mouse pointer
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=899610 Bug ID: 899610 Summary: I have an extra static mouse pointer Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 13.2 Beta 1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace Assignee: kde-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: Greg.Freemyer@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- I used "zypper dup" to upgrade from 13.1 to 13.2 I then rebooted and logged into KDE. I now have 2 mouse pointers. One is dynamic and I can control it. The other is static and dead center of the screen. I have made no effort to clear the issue. ie. I have not logged out and back in, etc. I will try that after I submit this and report if anything cleared up the extra mouse pointer. =============== I am running pure everything from 13.2 beta 1. That includes KDE 4. I have both a Intel and Nvidia graphics controller
/sbin/lspci | grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108M [GeForce GT 540M] (rev a1)
I don't recall setting up anything special for the graphics so I'm using whichever VGA controller openSUSE defaulted to. I have the intell video driver installed: zypper se intel Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... What if you use modesetting driver instead of nouveau? Install xf86-video-modesetting and uninstall xf86-video-nouveau package.
I found both were already installed. I attempted: - uninstall xf86-video-nouveau I still had the extra mouse pointer after reboot / login KDE / go to virtual console (cntrl-alt-F2) / return to KDE (cntrl-alt-F7) - uninstall xf86-video-modesetting, reinstall xf86-video-nouveau. After reboot, KDE login, etc. I still have the extra static mouse pointer. Note: when I reinstalled it libvdpau-nouveau was also installed. Likely because I ran "zypper --no-recommends dup" to do the upgrade and just "zypper in xf86-video-nouveau" to do the reinstall. Not an issue unless I might be missing an important package due to use of --no-recommends. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Ah, I missed the description: it's a machine with two graphics. Is this a hybrid (muxless) graphics, or a switchable graphics?
In anyway, try to uninstall xf86-video-intel as well, so that only modesetting driver is used. Are still two cursors shown?
With both xf86-video-intel and xf86-video-nouveau the static mouse pointer goes away. If xf86-video-intel is present, then I have the extra static mouse pointer. I was also able to logout of KDE and back in without the system crashing Thus it seems to be a problem with xf86-video-intel -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
