[Bug 373189] New: System doesn' t wake up when resuming from hibernation in 10.3 with Lenovo Thinkpad T61P
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=373189 Summary: System doesn't wake up when resuming from hibernation in 10.3 with Lenovo Thinkpad T61P Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: aaragoneses@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Development Created an attachment (id=203517) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=203517) Log I asked in bug 327601 if I should create a new bug and here it is. After freezing, I couldn't access to the console with CTRL+ALT+Fn and therefore couldn't get any result with SysRq. NOTE: I have an Intel Centrino Core Duo but I have an OpenSUE installed with kernel-bigsmp (should I install x86-64 in the future?). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

No, YAST can only install one kernel in parallel, so installing the old kernel wiht YAST will uninstall all other kernels (there is an enhancement request for quite some time to fix this, but...)
Can you point me to the bug number for that RFE?
If you download it manually, you can install it with "rpm -vih kernel...rpm" as usual, maybe you need to give the "--oldpackage" option if rpm complains about a newer version already installed.
I will try this, thanks. (In reply to comment #7 from Stephan Kulow)
any update?
I'm finished partitioning and now downloading oS11Beta3_64bits, so this will be a good testcase too. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'm finished partitioning and now downloading oS11Beta3_64bits, so this will be a good testcase too.
I decided to install OpenSUSE11 beta 3 (64bits) prior to testing the regular 10.3 kernel and *it works* out of the box without installing/configuring/tweaking anything. However, I'm now affected by bug 394319 (oS11) and I can't test yet the 10.3 kernel. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I've fixed that issue and I've been able to install the regular 32bit kernel on OpenSUSE10.3 (reference: 2.6.22.5-31) and it didn't let me start X (I'm using an NVidia card) with the error "no screens found" so I couldn't test the hibernation. Can you tell me how to test it without X, or tell me how to fix it in case you know? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I've also upgraded to kernel-default-2.6.22.17-0.1.i586 and the same X issue happens. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The command is powersave -U , right? I've tested it and it works, so definitely the bug is in the bigsmp 32bits kernel. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I noticed that I had the package 'nvidia-gfxG01-kmp-bigsmp' installed so I installed the same one for the kernel-default: 'nvidia-gfxG01-kmp-default'. Thanks to this, X is working now with the regular kernel *but* it broke hibernation, so I guess the problem is here, so I am renaming the bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I finally decided to no longer track proprietary NVIDIA driver bugs against openSUSE. Therefore I'm closing these now as WONTFIX.
Thanks Stefan. Marking as VERIFIED for now.
In case you're using our SLES/SLED products and can reproduce this issue also on thesed products feel free to reopen. These are still tracked, since customers of these products depend on the proprietary driver for newer NVIDIA hardware.
I'll test with SLED 10 SP3, ok?
Be aware that you need a privilleged account to track anything against
I'm a Novell employee so I guess I have a privilleged account, right? However, now I'm thinking that this bug may not be related to NVidia, because when powersave -U worked I didn't just have the NVidia packet missing, but the whole X system was not working. Is this a possibility? Anyway, I guess the problem is not in X itself because in oS11b3(64bits) the X system works and hibernation too (there's no RPM for NVidia yet so I haven't installed anything there). I wonder if there are Lenovo laptops so cool as this one, but with an ATI card :) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
