[Bug 826983] New: "Sign up" link is not consistent on opensuse.org sites
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=826983 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=826983#c0 Summary: "Sign up" link is not consistent on opensuse.org sites Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Infrastructure AssignedTo: mrueckert@suse.com ReportedBy: rajko@opensuse.org QAContact: lrupp@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- "Sign up" links are not consistent on opensuse.org sites and often leads to long signup form used for SUSE and Novell customers that requires the same amount of information from openSUSE users, which is not acceptable. Also, due to java script login used on some sites, and intention to support non-js browsers, "Sign up" leads to non-js login form with additional sign up link which is wrong. "Sign up" is synonym for "Register", not "Login". Example how it should be solved is http://build.opensuse.org . It doesn't honor non-java script login, but there is not much one can do with that server without java script. Affected sites: "Sign up" leads to login page with link to the actual sign up page for SUSE customers with long sign up form that is asking too much from openSUSE users and contributors. http://en.opensuse.org (and all language wikis) http://forums.opensuse.org (it has only one link "Register|Login") "Sign up" leads to ICSLogin page and then to simple login form that is much more suitable for openSUSE users. http://features.opensuse.org http://connect.opensuse.org -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=826983 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=826983#c1 --- Comment #1 from Rajko Matovic <rajko@opensuse.org> 2013-06-26 21:22:19 UTC --- This is usability bug, not enhancement. In some variations it exposes people that would like to ask about problems with openSUSE at Forums, or offer help (contribute), to unnecessary difficulties when they want to sign up. In other variations it is misleading "Sign up" is actually another "Login". Both increase entry barrier for new active openSUSE users. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Also, due to java script login used on some sites,
JS is really a problem, it makes login impossible on certain sites (bnc#761283) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The login page does not look that great without JS, but it's functional. The short registration page for openSUSE would need to be developed and implemented by the NCC and electronic marketing teams. Assigning to Matt Hagberg for sprint backlog. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There is already a short(er) registration page: https://secure-www.novell.com/selfreg/jsp/createOpenSuseAccount.jsp?login=Si... This page is linked for example from features.opensuse.org -> Sign up -> Sign up. OTOH, for example the wiki links to the "long" "business" registration form. So you just need to replace the link target at places that link to the "long" form, which shouldn't be too hard ;-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Re-assigning to eMarketing to fix the Forums link.
9 months later, the forum still links to the long "business" registration form. Is it really that hard to change a link? ;-) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
