Why do WinXP and earlier opensuse (11.1) releases not exhibit this behavior. They play audio CDs fine. 2. Why are we trying to 'mount' and audio CD at all? It's not a conventional data cd. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I suspect there's a bug that was introduced around 11.2 and has persisted in 11.3. Even if the hardware were bad, the fact that dbus gets stuck in a retry loop and buries the desktop in dialog windows is clearly a code failure. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I have 2 desktops and 1 laptop all set up with Opensuse 11.3: Desktop 1: requires users to be a member of cdrom, audio to access the drives However still no track info is displayed. dmesg now says: [ 546.121443] sr1: CDROM not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive. Desktop 2: originally same behaviour as Desktop 1 described in comment 8 Once the user is a member of cdrom and audio, audio disks can be accessed and tracks are visible Laptop: just works - no group memberships required. The 2 desktops are AMD-based the laptop is Intel-based. Between them they have 4 different DVD-RWs and they all worked flawlessly using 11.1 until I upgraded. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It's only OpenSuse 11.3 that cannot read the audio CDs. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I install the gnome-desktop as well and using nautilus instead of dolphin (even from within a KDE session) the tracks are accessible. So it's something that KDE does which prevents audio CDs from being access correctly. Since I only ever access audio CDs to rip them, I have found a work-around for my use case but it would be nice if this could be fixed. If you need me to provide you with any logs or details on the hardware in question then please let me know. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

My work-around in comment 11 stopped working. Nautilus can still open the CD but Grip still fails to see the CD. As Jeff pointed out in comment 6 it's a common problem and affects numerous people.
