[Bug 731577] New: SUSE 12.1, Acroread hanging upon closing, cannot kill PID/Acroread
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=731577 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=731577#c0 Summary: SUSE 12.1, Acroread hanging upon closing, cannot kill PID/Acroread Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Firefox AssignedTo: bnc-team-mozilla@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: nabramski@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:8.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0 First bug report, apologies in advance if incorrectly posted. New Suse 12.1, KDE (for now), upgraded 2 days ago, ALL aspects with latest versions/updates/patches. Adobe Reader (Acroread 9.4.1), after upgrading to suse 12.1, now hangs and fails to close when opening a PDF either via firefox (8.0), inline with Firefox, or Standalone. The primary system is one of two cores maxing to 100%, then open TOPS, and the PID for Acroread is at 99%. Cannot Kill PID associated with Acroread no matter what ya do :):). The only option is to log out and log back in. Once this happens (100% CPU usage is the indicator), you cannot reopen nor use ANY PDF via Acroread. This did NOT OCCUR with Suse 11.4 or earlier. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open PDF (via Adobe) either Standalone or within Firefox 2. Close PDF however you want 3. Wait approx 10 seconds and CPU usage will jump to 100% and in TOPS you will find ACROREAD stuck at 99% and unable to kill the PID associated with Acroread. Actual Results: One or both CPU cores will max to 100% and stay there until Reboot. Expected Results: Closed as designed and/or able to kill the PID, not max out CPU usage requiring reboot Please advise if additional info is needed, i.e. a possible error log. Looked through /var/log and all subs, cannot find anything related to acroread/adobe when searching. Will do additional troubleshooting and report back if needed. Furthermore, I used Firefox as the component since this is A) Where it began & happens the most and B) also changed FF preferences to open Adobe Reader vs. read inline via Firefox, still the same issues. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As you wrote it also happens if acroread is used as external app to open a PDF file so Firefox not really involved into it. I'm pretty sure there is an old bugreport about it already. But as Adobe Reader is closed software we never were able to figure out what could be done. That report is likely to get closed unfortunately. But nothing for me to decide. Beforehand, acroread ran without a hitch. Nevertheless, the RPM AdbeRdr9.4.6-1_i486linux_enu.rpm available via ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/9.x/9.4.6/enu/ that happens to be linked in the duplicates is not the fix/answer. IF there is more info that I can provide just say the word and I'll get it to you. Again, thanks for your time here however the 9.4.6-1 version does NOT resolve this issue.
